In 1981 3 pre-production AH-64As were \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003egiven to the Army for testing and named Apache. The Apache went into production in 1982 and \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ehas evolved into one of the deadly machines over the battle field.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe 8th Battalion, 229th Aviation was activated in the Army Reserve on September 17, 1989 at \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFort Knox, Kentucky granted permission by the AVG for the 8th-229th to use their logo and name \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eso they became the Flying Tigers. The 8th Battalion first received the Apache helicopter in 1992 \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eand in October 2005 began training for the AH-64D Longbow and became the 8th Battalion, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e229th Aviation Regiment.
