It was \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003edesigned as a missile carrying all-weather interceptor against Soviet bombers and served in this \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003erole from the 1960s until the 1980s. The F-106A as well as the F-106B two-seat trainer served \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ewith 15 fighter interceptor squadrons starting in 1959. The aircraft was rarely referred to as the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eDelta Dart but was commonly called the “6”.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIn September 1959 Convair 58-0766 was the 124th F-106 produced and delivered to the 456th \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFIS Castle AFB, California. October 1960 the aircraft transferred to the 71st FIS and then on to \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ethe 94th FIS in 1969 and the 2nd FIS in 1971. In 1973 it moved to the 171st FIS before leaving for \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ethe 159th FIS\/125th FIG Florida ANG at Jacksonville in 1974. In December 1986 58-0766 was \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003esent to AMARC.
