In 1939 the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eRAF Furys were replaced by Gladiators and Hurricanes.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe No. 43 Squadron RAF was formed in 1916 and disbanded in December 1919. It was\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr soft=\"\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003ereformed in July 1923 at RAF Henlow equipped with Snipes. In 1926 the Squadron was re-\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eequipped with new Gloster Gamecocks from which the squadron name “Fighting Cocks” \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eoriginated. The 43rd began using black and white checkered markings around the same \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003etime period. In 1928 the “Fighting Cocks” switched to Armstrong Whitworth Siskins and in \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMay 1931 received the first Fury I’s. At RAF Tangmere R.H.
