It was \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003edesigned as a missile carrying all-weather interceptor against Soviet bombers and served in this \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003erole from the 1960s until the 1980s. The F-106A as well as the F-106B two-seat trainer served \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ewith 15 fighter interceptor squadrons starting in 1959. The aircraft was rarely referred to as the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eDelta Dart but was commonly called the “6”.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIn February 1960 the 211th F-106A Delta Dart 59-0043 c\/n 8-24-172 was completed and in \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMarch 1960 assigned to the 27th FIS Loring AFB, Maine. In July 1971 the aircraft transferred to \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ethe 83rd FIS at Loring before leaving for Dover AFB, Delaware and the 95th FIS. On January 24, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e1973 59-0043 began a fifteen and a half year stay with the 119th FIS\/177th FIG Atlantic City, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eNew Jersey ANG and was named “Spirit of Atlantic City”.
