Herpa Wings presents the U.S. Air Force Lockheed SR-71A Blackbird of Detachment 1, 9th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing, in 1:200 scale as item 574310, serial 61-7967. Det 1 flew the SR-71 from Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, from 1968 to 1990 without a single aircraft lost to enemy fire. In December 1978, 61-7967 diverted to Osan Air Base in South Korea with engine trouble. The local U-2 crews used the downtime to add their black cat emblem and a price tag offering the Blackbird for sale for 69 cents. This model captures one of the most famous pranks in reconnaissance history.
