The 8th Fighter Group spent much of the war in New Guinea, where its 35th Fighter Squadron flew P-40Ns in the Fifth Air Force's campaign along the island's north coast. Lt. Glen "Gabby" Holder's Warhawk carried the name "Cyclones Flying Circus".
