Like other European air forces, the Belgian Air Component is also replacing its F-16 fighters with the F-35A stealth multi-role combat aircraft. 34 aircraft are currently on order and will be deployed with the 10th Wing in Kleine Brogel and the 2nd Wing in Florennes, replacing all remaining F-16s by 2027. However, the first four F-35s, including this FL-002 registered “Lightning”, will remain in the USA as part of the 312th Squadron, a conversion unit stationed at Luke Air Base in Arizona.
