This Die-cast metal airplane model comes in 1:150 scale with plastic stand and is approximately 5 1/8 inches long with 8 1/4 inch wingspan. Adult Collectible ages 14+ The PBY Catalina was flying patrol boat produced by Consolidated Aircraft in the 1930s and 1940. The Catalina was designed to be a long-range patrol bomber intended to locate and attack enemy transport ships at sea. The amphibious PBY-5A was the most produced variant and served in reconnaissance, anti-submarine warfare, convoy-escort and air-sea rescue. It was one of the most widely used seaplanes of World War II.
PBY-5 Bureau Number 48294 was built in 1943, and served in a variety of locations around the Atlantic during World War II and with the Coast Guard after the war. It was restored in 2001 and is currently on display at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
